San Juan County Citizens have Spoken!

San Juan County has embarked on a series of public meetings to see if there is support for Land Use Regulations to guide future growth throughout the County. Here is what you, the residents of San Juan County have to say about the project:

Need to clean up this county! Why is it okay to collect dead buses, boats and trucks?

    • We can't build a fence taller than 6 feet!
    • We can still see the junk! Not to mention health hazards and animal population.

What is happening with the water and sewer plans?

What can we do to become a county road and get maintenance for it?

Require setback space between industry (0&6, Const. Manuf.) and residential and require noise and visual abatement.

Sewer is critical
Clean up county
All subdivisions should be complete

I think this is much needed, and well overdue

Keep up the good work

Avoid negative questions they are frequently not understood, i.e. on the land survey using the word "not"

Stop problems from developing

Identify areas i.e. :

  • Agriculture
  • Residential Development
  • Commercial
  • Industrial etc

Would like for County to destroy abandoned houses because of drugs and crime

Clean up air and water

The county looks like crap, planning, zoning

Thank you for asking!!
Don't stop asking all the way. This is a long term project

Would like to see a housing set back from gas wells
100' setback from production equipment

Our biggest need in Kirtland is sewage treatment-the lack of affordable septic systems or a sewage treatment system is limiting the growth and economic development of the west side of San Juan County

Improve NM 575 from Hwy 64 to NM 173
Improve CR 4445

I am opposed to any plan for the county or any government agency to "manage" anything in the incorporated or unincorporated areas.
When the government gets invoiced they only mess up and charge higher and higher taxes to pay for it.
I am in support of law enforcement and the protection of private and public rights of the two: "public and private" Should not get confused.

I didn't hear anything about the SJ County Boards plan of management out the meeting on the La Plata.
How do I find out what the plan for the Northern part of La Plata is?

If the former county commissioners had done the job they were elected to do, this would have been done already.
Get zoning and regulations in place, stand behind regulations and laws.
Clean up the county
Take care of citizens and county
More public involvement in decisions.

Septic problems should be the top priority
People living in the county do not want more regulations
Possible ordinance on areas of junk, mobile homes, and several junk cars could be a compromise

Concerns for appearance, affordable housing, and protection of property values and resales could be helped by appropriate zoning and county regulations.
I am interested in information and would like to see what I can do to help

I think some zoning and planning is definitely needed.
It's good to have the rural feel, but some guidelines would go a long way toward improving the looks

Hamlet development might be a good thing due to the unique land quality and topography of SJC, especially considering the development mistakes of Farmington and Kirtland. With these anti-examples of land use planning, a better bet is to develop away (w/hamlets) and not try to sprawl more and infill closer to city limits

Too many junk cars & mobile homes
Need regulations to control
